This morning I decided to tackle fallin branches and get them all cut down and piled up so that we could make a trip to the landfill mulching pile. Well, in the process I decided to unwedge a branch that fell some time back and got caught up in a tree on the way down, as I was pulling it over into the yard to cut into pieces I found that it was a home for a woodpecker nest and had 3 little baby birds in it, alive and hungry. Soon after I saw mom pirched on a branch looking at me intently. SO.... I cut the long end off and wedged the branch back up in the tree, unfortunately a few feet lower than it was originally. I sure hope momma bird comes back and feeds them. I never touched the babies or even close to the opening of the whole. I really hope she hears them crying and comes back to feed and care for them.
